The availability of wearable devices capable of continuous measurement of heart rate, glucose levels, physical activity, and sleep in real-time has increased in recent years. In addition, laboratory high throughput technologies have made remarkable advancements, enabling the extraction of a wealth of information about our body functions and metabolism from a small sample of blood, swab, saliva, or stool. Bringing these data together may provide opportunities to personalise the diet to the individual’s specific needs. In this talk, I will review the advances made in recent years in the field of big data/‘omics-based diet for weight and glucose management and discuss their potential to transform the nutritional care of people living with obesity, prediabetes or diabetes.
